Park City Ski Rental Tale
On our last Park City Resort ski trip, we skied at Park City Mountain on Tuesday which was our second day of skiing. The day before we were at The Canyons, and I must say, I do prefer Park City Mountain to The Canyons.
Park City was the mountain were we were going to take lessons, which my brother arranged via Craigslist. However, on Monday, the instructor we were suppose to ski with, canceled on us because of a family emergency, but he arranged for another instructor to go with us. After several calls the night before, we made an arrangements to meet the instructor at the base of Park City Mountain at 9am.
So about 830ish we headed over to Park City from our Canyons Condo, with our Ski Rentals in tow. We deposited our rentals and then went over to the ticket window to get tickets. About that time we got a call from our instructor saying he would be late because he got a flat. After using the facilities…hate to have to go while on the mountain…we went over to get our skis and head up the mountain tram for a run or two before the instructor got to the the mountain.

At that point, I discovered that someone had mistakenly taken my skis. At right about were my skis had been, skis very similar to mine, but with the label “Stephen” and not “Adam” sat. At this point, I was more than a little annoyed. I headed over to some mountain staff. They in turn took me to the help desk and took my info. We then took Stephens skis back to the Ski rental shop that Stephen had gotten his skis from, which was not Aloha Ski Rentals, which I got mine from. The Park City Aloha ski rental shop, did give me another set after verifying with the other ski shop that indeed did have my skis taken and they had the rental skis of Stephen.
So my Bro and I headed up the mountain and took one smooth ride down. On the way down, our instructor, Jonathan called and arranged to meet us in five minutes. So we then swooshed down to the base of Park City Mountain to meet our instructor. At that time I also checked where my skis had been, and viola, they were back. So I headed back over to Aloha to return the second pair of skis I had obtained that morning. Going to the skis, I then found that I was short one ski. While standing there somewhat dumbfounded, I got a call from Stephen..Stephen then brought my ski up and apologized for his mistake.
Now, I am sure this story could have turned out a lot worse. Someone actually could have stole my skis instead of someone just mistakingly taking the wrong pair. And I am sure Stephen won’t be making that mistake twice.
As it turns out, no one got hurt, my skis were returned, and we had a great day of skiing with our instructor, who happened to push us way beyond our comfort zone. We hit some amazing powder, and I got some of the best air I had during our entire trip.
I would just like to say thanks to the guys at Aloha Ski Rentals…both The Canyons and Park City stores. Due to their understanding, my stress level would surely have been a lot higher. Man, paying for a set of lost skiis would really have sucked.
